Community Pastoral Care
Helping ordinary people care for one another
Introduction
Community Pastoral Care aims to build the capacity of people in
the local community to care for one another through building on the
current skills and activities of local churches in order to provide
human contact, listening and basic practical support on a voluntary
basis, thus reducing the workload of GPs and other professionals.
In many communities you can find:
a local church with a reasonably effective system of pastoral
care for its members and their friends and a desire to improve
their connection with their local community; and
a GP surgery which has many patients who come with needs which
are not primarily medical in nature.
Community Pastoral Care is a way to help both groups through
partnership working.

The latest version of the documents we have produced can be found

Summary. A two-page (one sheet of paper) introduction to the
scheme.
Proposal. An extended version of the Summary, answering most
of the questions raised by people after reading the Summary.
Resources and References. Provides notes about some of the
organisations and
schemes we are seeking to work alongside and learn from.
Proselytising. A briefing paper on appropriate ways to handle
the question of communicating faith in the context of public
service delivery. Relevant to Community Pastoral Care, but not
explicitly writting for this context.
